The single biggest upgrade to home coffee isn’t a fancier machine — it’s a kitchen scale. Weigh the coffee, weigh the water, and suddenly yesterday’s great cup is repeatable.

Our house recipe is 1 gram of coffee to 16 grams of water: so 20 g of coffee to 320 g of water for a decent mug.

The whole kit: a dripper, a filter, a scale and a kettle.

Pour in slow circles, keep the water level steady, and aim to finish around the three-minute mark.

Pouring in slow, steady circles

If it’s too fast, grind finer; too slow, grind coarser. That’s the whole game.
